Description

Fast neutrons are generated in short bursts in the vicinity of electron accelerators, fusion experimental facilities or in plasma focus devices. Passive detectors such as activation foils or Cr-39 nuclear track detectors give some information about the pulsed neutron background. A device that can measure this radiation in real time would be useful in giving an estimate of the background near the machine within the shielding. The present paper describes the design and performance of a proportional counter with silver as the neutron sensing material
