Radionuclide uptake by winkles in the shoreline waters of Cumbria, UK
Description
The consumption of winkles collected from the Irish Sea shoreline close to the Sellafield reprocessing plant in Cumbria is an important contributor to the radiation dose received in this area. Predicting the magnitude of this dose far into the future requires an understanding of the different routes by which artificial radionuclides are taken into these molluscs. The results of recent study on this topic are discussed. (orig.)
