Description
Based on the working principle of MRPC, a new prototype of large area MRPC with long read-out strips was designed. This LMRPC is doubling stacked and has 10 gaps of 250 μm. Signals are read out from two ends of the 6 strips, with an area of 50 cm × 2.5 cm for each of them. The detector was tested at GSI/FOPI, using the secondary particles of proton beams (E = 3.5 GeV/c) colliding with a Pb target. The results show that the LMRPC has a time resolution of about 60 ps σ, the detecting efficiency over 97% and the cross talk ratio lower than 3%. The detector also has a good spatial resolution of 3.6 mm σ along the strip. (authors)
