The paper explains the reason for the change from non-S.I. to S.I. units for the measurement of radioactivity and of ionising radiation. The S.I. units are defined, and conversion data are presented for activity; absorbed dose, kerma; exposure; absorbed dose rate; exposure rate. (U.K.)
