Platinum state on the surface of solid oxide electrolyte 0.9ZrO2+0.1Y2O3 before and after interaction with oxygen

Description

X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was applied to study the surface chemical composition of a solid oxide electrolyte and the platinum state on the surface of this electrolyte before and after high temperature interaction with oxygen. As shown, the surface composition of the solid electrolyte coincides with the bulk composition in Y and Zr contents, the states of these elements remaining unchanged in comparison with a clean (without deposited Pt) electrolyte. Exposure of the samples to oxygen leads to the formation of a layer at the Pt-solid electrolyte interface whose state is similar to platinum oxide
