Description
The present paper reviews thermal equilibrium studies of vacancy formation in bcc transition metals and in fcc metals by means of positron annihilation measurements. Particular emphasis is given to recent lifetime studies in bcc refractory metals at high temperatures. The vacancy formation enthalpies are compared to the results of other measuring techniques and by a comparison with self-diffusion data information is deduced for the migration of vacancies in non-equilibrium concentration.
