Hyperon- and antihyperon-nucleon scattering at LEAR
Description
This chapter describes an experiment using the Low-Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) in which the production of hyperon-antihyperon pairs will be measured from threshold up to 2 Ge V/c incident -p momentum. Data on hyperon and antihyperon scattering on nucleons and nuclei are crucial for the understanding of the strong interaction and are important testing grounds for models of the baryon-baryon interaction. Little information exists on cross sections of -Y-N and almost nothing is known about the spin dependence of the interaction. The processes -pp→-YY yield sufficiently large numbers of hyperons and antihyperons to make detailed studies of Y and -Y interactions feasible
