Annual reports 1995 and plans 1996/97. NKS/RAK-1: Strategy for reactor safety

The general objective of NKS/RAK-1 is to investigate how a sufficient level of safety can be achieved in practical work and what strategies and methods should be used. The following more detailed objectives have also been formulated: to investigate and evaluate the safety work, to increase realism and reliability of the safety analysis, to increase safety in selected areas. The project includes five subprojects, and four of them have so far been initiated: Subproject 1: Investigation and evaluation of the safety work. Subproject 2: Initiating events - estimation of pipe rupture frequencies. Subproject 3: Integrated sequence analysis - with focus on new and more comprehensive human reliability methods. Subproject 4: Maintenance strategies and ageing. A fifth subproject will be devoted to plant modifications taking new technologies and new reactor designs into account. This summary describes briefly the four subprojects which have started. Work during 1995 and plans for 1996-97 are dealt with in one context. (au)
