Long-term performance of linear accelerators

A summary is presented of the results of a review of the long term performance of the first four linear accelerators installed at the Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute. Comments are made on the following machines: 1) a 4 MV x-ray generator, installed 1953, taken out of use 1971, 2) a 4 MV x-ray generator, installed 1962, taken out of use 1984, 3) an 8 MV x-ray/10 MeV electron generator, installed 1968, taken out of use 1984, 4) a 4 MV x-ray generator, installed 1974, still in use.
