A quick method to analyse uranium in phosphoric acid from extraction plant using gamma spectroscopy

  • 1. Atomic Energy Commission, Damascus (Syrian Arab Republic). Division of Hydrometallurgy

Description

This report studied the development of a quick and reliable method to determine the concentration of uranium at low and high concentrations using gamma spectroscopy using the content of the sample of U235 at 186 keV.the correlation was linear with correlation coefficient of 0.9997 and with an intercept nearly equal to zero. This method was then applied to aqueous, acidic and organic samples containing uranium at high and low concentration. The relative percentage error was found to be 2.5% for high uranium concentrations and 2.20% for medium concentrations and 1.9% for low concentrations. There was no need for pretreatment or separation or to be carried out on the samples. (author)
