Computerized tomography in the diagnosis of extraorganic pelvic neoplasms

Creators

Description

To determine the role and place of computed tomography (CT) in the diagnosis of extraorganic pelvic tumors the method was applied to 68 patients. A third generation CT/T 7800 computed tomograph (General Electric, USA) was employed. Accurate diagnosis of extraorganic pelvic tumors was achieved in 81%. The erroneous results were determined by difficulties of differential diagnosis of an inflammatory process in the pelvic fat and a commissural process after operation. In 20 (36%) patients tumor tissue origin was accurately determined: lipomas, dermoid cysts, neurofibromas, chordomas and Hodgkin's disease. In the other cases CT permitted the determination of type of tumors, their site and true extent. The data obtained permitted the choice of correct therapeutic tactics, individual design of radiotherapy and objective assessment of its efficacy
