Description

The stabilization of Zr O2 Mg O (87,7/11.3) mol% system was studied by the traditional method of oxide mixture. The effect of additions of 0.05 to 0.05 mol% of Ti O2, Cu O and Zn O on the stabilization of this system was considered after calcination at temperature range of 1500 and 1600deg C. The results showed that Ti O2 destabilized the system due to formation of zirconium titanate phase. Otherwise the copper and zinc oxides contribute for the system stabilization favoring tetragonal phase. This should be due crystalline field alteration and hybrid orbitals of sp2 d5 type formation.
