The UA2 upgrade programme

  • 1. The UA2 Collaboration, Bern

Description

The UA2 detector is upgraded to match the increased luminosity that is available after construction of ACOL. The upgrade programme concentrates on improving the missing transverse energy measurement and on electron identification. The programme is designed to take full advantage of the increased luminosity that is available at the Sp-barpS Collider after completion of ACOL in 1987. The main physics motivation is the search for low p/sub T/ electrons as a signature for top quark production and events with missing transverse energy as a signature for supersymmetry. This requires improved electron identification provided by the new vertex detector and better calorimeter coverage by the new end cap calorimeters. A large improvement in the measurement of missing transverse energy and in electron identification results
