Scanning tunnel microscope on the monolithic cross-shaped section piezoelement
- 1. Leningradskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ., Leningrad (USSR)
Description
A scanning tunnel microscope (STM), where a new design of a pin manipulator, as well as an electronic control unit structure are described. The use of a monolith cross-shaped section piezoelement provides to increase resonance eigenfrequencies of the pin manipulators up to 60kHz along the axis and 12kHz along the normal to the axis, and consequently, to improve the STM fast response and reduce the sensitivity to external vibrations. The manipulator sensitivity is 13.8A/V for scanning along X,Y axes and 5.5A/V - for Z axis. The STM resolution along the sample surface is <or approx. 2A
