Prognostic factors of post-keloidectomy radiation therapy

  • 1. Nippon Medical School, Tokyo (Japan)

Description

However postoperative radiotherapy has been used to treat patients with keloids for many years, no consensus has been reached on the total dosage and dose fractionation. This study showed the therapeutic outcome of keloid patients treated with postoperative high-dose-rate superficial brachytherapy (molds technique) and retrospectively analyzed the prognostic factors. As a result, the risk of adverse outcome significantly correlated with female gender, younger age, and strongly stretched regions. On the contrary, etiology of keloid and the length of the lesion were not significant. (author)
