Can CP invariance be saved

Description

Kinetics and mechanism of one-electron oxidation of phenoxyl radical by metal halides (NbCl5, GaCl3, TiCl4) are studied. In course of the reaction (in CH3CN) the radical absorption bands disappear from electron spectra and cation-radical bands emerge. The rate of the radicals disappearance for the 10-15 fold excess of the metal halide is a linear function of the radical concentration. The rate of one-electron radical oxidation is described by a second-order equation. The activation energy of the reaction found from the temperature dependence of the rate constants is 2.3+-0.3 kcal/mol. The kinetic parametres of free radicals oxidation may be used to quantitatively estimate the metal halides capacity to acceptance of one electron
