Energy 2007-2020. Ambitions in the field of energy and required governmental actions for the project 'Clean and Efficient'

Increasing concern about climate change caused the EU to take unilateral substantial steps towards a 20% CO2 emission reduction in 2020 and preparedness to increase the effort to 30% if international agreements are made. All available means will be needed to achieve this: (1) increasing the pace of energy saving and efficiency; (2) more forceful implementation of sustainable energy sources; (3) cleaner use of fossil fuels; (4) preconditions for space for nuclear energy. In order to arrive at a sustainable and efficient energy supply, the Dutch government laid down indicative targets for saving, sustainable energy and CO2 reduction in its coalition agreement. EnergieNed (the Federation of energy companies in the Netherlands) subscribes the ambition of the coalition agreement towards energy transition. This agenda reflects the ambitions to accelerate the energy transition and also describes which government measures will be needed to achieve this. (mk)
