Beat wave current drive experiment on the Davis Diverted Tokamak (DDT)

Description

The beatwave current drive experiment is summarized. The first phase of the experiment was the construction of the microwave sources and the diagnostics needed to demonstrate the beat wave effects, i.e. the measurement of the electrostatic plasma wave produced by the beating of two high intensity electromagnetic waves. In order to keep the cost of the experiments to a minimum, a low density filament plasma source (108) to (1010 particles cm-3) was employed and the magnetic field in the toroidal plasma was produced by a dc power supply
