The effect of Y2Ba4CuWOy addition on the properties of single domain YBCO superconductors by TSIG technique

Highlights: • The YW2411 particles can be introduced into the YBCO bulk by TSIG process. • We found the size of YW2411 particles is in the range of 80–150nm. • The largest levitation force is obtained in the sample with 5wt% additions. -- Abstract: Single domain YBCO bulk superconductors, with different Y2Ba4CuWOy (YW2411) additions, have been fabricated by top seeded infiltration and growth technique (TSIG). The solid phase pellet is made of a mixture of Y2BaCuO5(Y211) + x wt% YW2411 powders, x = 0, 5, 10, 15. The growth morphology, microstructure and levitation force of the YBCO bulks have been investigated. It is found that the levitation force increased from 23 N to 33.6 N and then reduced to 20 N as YW2411 addition from 0 to 5 wt% and 15 wt%, the largest levitation force is obtained when the YW2411 content is about 5 wt%. This is closely related with the microstructure of the samples with different Y2Ba4CuWOy (YW2411) additions, which is very helpful for us to fabricate high quality YBCO bulk superconductors
