Study of strip/fiber prototype shower maximum detector for the STAR experiment at RHIC
Description
We describe the design and performance of a prototype shower maximum detector based on a two-dimensional scintillation hodoscope with a fiber readout for the STAR experiment at RHIC. The main characteristics of the detector, namely, energy response, energy and position resolution, e-/π-rejection power, and π0/γ separation have been measured and calculated for different detector locations (depths) inside an electromagnetic calorimeter and different detector granularities. 8 refs., 11 figs., 1 tab
