A high-power LINAC RF power supply system
Description
We phase auto-oscillating sections of a multi-section LINear ACcelerator using the beam-section interaction. A beam interacting with an accelerating structure produces a signal whose frequency is that of the accelerating bunch and so is equal to the resonant frequency of a reference section. We supply this signal to the klystron amplifier through a feedback loop choosing the attenuation, phase shift, and section frequency de-tuning so that each section self-excited oscillations are phased with those of the reference section, thus ensuring efficient beam acceleration. We have constructed an equivalent circuit from whose simulation using vector diagram techniques we found initial parameters for an experimental demonstration with a two-section Continuous Wave electron accelerator
