9th international conference on high-temperature reactors - coal and nuclear energy for electricity and gas generation
Description
The site of the high-temperatur reactor in the Ruhr region neighbouring on a coal-fired power plant is not accidental. The potential of the high-temperature reactor as a central plant element for the supply of heat for heating purposes and process heat covers also the possibility of coal gasification and liquefaction. Therefore the high-temperature reactor is, in the long term, a ray of hope for the coal region, able to compensate for the production-related competitive disadvantages of local coal. It can contribute to guaranteeing in the long term the task of German hard coal as an essential pillar of our energy supply. The VGB as a technical association of thermal power plant operators is particularly committed to the integration of coal and nuclear energy. Within the bounds of its possibilities, it will contribute to promoting the safe and environmentally beneficial generation of electricity from the two primary energy sources. (orig./DG)

Der Standort des Hochtemperaturreaktors im Ruhrrevier in unmittelbarer Nachbarschaft eines Kohlekraftwerkes ist kein Zufall. Das Potential des Hochtemperaturreaktors als zentrales Anlagenelement zur Lieferung von Heiz- und Prozesswaerme beinhaltet auch die Moeglichkeit der Kohlenvergasung und -verfluessigung. Der Hochtemperaturreaktor ist in diesem Sinne langfristig ein Hoffnungstraeger fuer das Kohlerevier, der die produktionsbedingten Wettbewerbsnachteile der heimischen Kohle auszugleichen in der Lage ist. Er kann dazu beitragen, die Aufgabe der deutschen Steinkohle als wesentlichen Pfeiler der Energieversorgung unseres Landes langfristig zu sichern. Die VGB als technische Vereinigung von Betreibern thermischer Kraftwerke ist dem Verbund von Kohle- und Kernenergie besonders verpflichtet. Im Rahmen ihrer Moeglichkeiten will sie dazu beitragen, die sichere und umweltfreundliche Erzeugung von Elektrizitaet aus beiden Primaerenergietraegern zu foerdern. (orig./DG)Additional details
