Safety relief valve discharge downcomer transients for a BWR
Description
The paper reports on a study into the effects of various design parameters on system transient pressure in the discharge downcomer of a safety relief valve. The fluid flow phenomenon is governed by the unsteady, one-dimensional, compressible flow equation, and the ''method of characteristics'' was used for solving the governing equations. The design parameters that affect maximum transient pressure and the pressure at the time of water slug clearance are the total pipe length, submergence length, maximum flowrate, and diameter of the pipe
