Description

After a retrospective and prospective discussion of the presence of electricity in our lives and of the current trends (de-carbonation, collaborative approaches, self-consumption), this publication proposes a presentation of the electric power system and of some of its characteristics and challenges: consumption, production, transport and distribution, fine controls (frequency control, provisional balance on the short term, permanent safety), steadiness despite hazards, multiplicity of actors. The next part discusses the challenges of the supply-demand balance and of the system operation: integration of renewable energies, flexibility, operation and resilience of the electric power system. The contributors then address flexibility and the associated market design evolutions, and the dynamic operation of the power system with its disruption and emerging solutions: frequency adjustment, short-circuit power and protection operation, harmonic and frequency disturbances, challenges of a system controlled by inverters
