Description

Fast neutron inelastic scattering from nine odd-mass nuclei, i.e. 27Al, 51V, 55Mn, 59Co, 63Cu, 65Cu, 89Y, 207Pb and 209Bi, has been measured with time-of-flight techniques for incident neutrons in the energy range 2.0 to 4.5 MeV. Excitation functions for the population of the individual levels in the nuclei have been derived. The experimental data have been used to investigate the usefulness of the Hauser-Feshback statistical model modified according to Moldauer in describing the scattering process. It was found that the inelastic scattering cross sections calculated with the Hauser-Feshbach-Moldauer model in most cases describe the experimental data well within 20 per cent, with the exception of a few levels in the heavier nuclei with collective excited states.
