Nuclear fuel industry in the USSR

This paper description of the current situation of the natural and enriched uranium industry in the USSR. Enterprises manufacturing these products in the Soviet Union fall under the authority of the USSR Ministry of Atomic Energy and Industry (the MAEI). The Soviet uranium industry was established in the late 1940's/early 1950's and originally focused on the country's defense requirements. Later, it became more and more involved in meeting the requirements of the civil nuclear energy production, both in the USSR and other countries, especially those where nuclear power plants had been built with technical assistance of the USSR.
