Experiments on an electrostatically plugged cusp device
- 1. Southwestern Inst. of Physics, Leshan, SC (China)
Description
An electrostatically plugged magnetic cusp device is described. The experimental method and results are presented for electron injection, effect of plugging electrode and the property of plasma confinement. The main results obtained are as follows: plasma density n = 1010 cm-3, confinement time τ = 2 ms, electron temperature Te = 50 eV and plasma potential φp approx.= -68 V. The scaling relation of the plasma density with magnetic field has been tested experimentally. The effect of plugging electrode is prominent. The major experimental data are agreement with theoretical results
