Oxidation of urea with nitrous acid in nitric acid solutions

Description
The kinetics of the reaction between urea and HNO2 in nitric acid solution was studied spectrophotometrically in view of the fact that urea is considered as an alternative (to hydrazine) reducing agent in wet processes of spent fuel reprocessing. It was found that, at a constant ionic strength of the solution μ = 2, in the range of the initial concentrations of urea from 0.01 to 0.1 M, HNO2, from 0.003 to 0.012 M, and hydrogen ions, from 0.1 to 1.5 M, the rate constant of the reaction is described by the equation -d[HNO2]/dt = k[HNO2][CO(NH2)2][H+]K([H+]K + 1)-1, where the rate constant k = 15.6±0.3 l· mol-1· min-1 and the protonation constant of urea K = 1.38 l· mol-1 at 15 deg C. From the temperature dependence of the reaction rate in the range of 15-35 deg C, the activation energy was determined to be 61 ± 5 kJ mol-1. Спектрофотометрическим методом изучена кинетика реакции, протекающих в азотнокислом растворе между HNO2 и карбамидом, который рассматривается в качестве альтернативного гидразину восстановителя в технологии водной переработки отработавшего ядерного топлива. Установлено, что при постоянной ионной силе раствора μ = 2 в интервале начальных концентраций карбамида от 0.01 до 0.1, HNO2 от 0.003 до 0.012 и ионов водорода от 0.1 до 1.5 моль/л скорость реакции описывается уравнением -d[HNO2]/dt k[HNO2][CO(NH2)2][H+]K([H+]K + 1)-1, где константа скорости реакции k = 15.6±0.3 л·моль-1·мин-1 , а константа протонизации карбамида K = 1.38 л·моль при 15 град С. Из зависимости скорости от температуры в интервале 15-35 град C определена энергия активации реакции, равная 61±5 кДж/моль. Предложен механизм реакции, включающий взаимодействие в медленной стадии недиссоциированных молекул HNO2 и протонированной формы карбамида NH2CONH3+Additional details
