Lattice defects in irradiated CsI single crystals

  • 1. Kyoto Univ., Kumatori, Osaka (Japan). Research Reactor Inst.

Description

Single crystals of CsI, very hygroscopic bcc materials, are irradiated by γ-rays to a dose of 1x107-1x108 R at RT and by reactor neutrons to a dose of 1.4x1015 n/cm2 at 20 K. Lattice defects induced in crystals are measured mainly by optical absorptions. After irradiation, isothermal annealings and/or isochronal annealings are performed to investigate the thermal behaviors of the defects. We investigate the quality effects of radiation and the temperature dependence of irradiation for CsI crystals. We can recognize some differences between absorption spectra of γ-irradiated CsI and absorption spectra of neutron-irradiated CsI. The assignments of F, F(I3-), V etc. should be rechecked through newly obtained results. (author)
