Description
In a cohort of 21 newly diagnosed type 2 diabetics, the size and density were studied for the pancreas and the kidneys, the density of the liver, the spleen and the blood in the abdominal aorta. The results were compared with laboratory findings. In the patients, reduced density of the pancreas (29.4 H) was observed for the unaltered organ size. Liver density was also found to be reduced (46.1 H) and its values indicated the presence of steatosis in 13 out of 21 patients. The reduced liver density was significantly associated with obesity. Other CAT findings, such as the size of the kidneys, renal cysts, nephrolithiasis, sclerotic plaques in the aorta, were not statistically significant. (author). 2 figs., 2 tabs., 15 refs
