Protection of the coast from oil pollution

This article focuses on oil pollution from shipping, and discusses contingency planning to minimise the effects of pollution, new Merchant Shipping regulations, and the threat from operational discharges from ships. The improved national and international regulations, improved facilities for waste disposal at ports, and increased penalties for illegal discharges are considered. (UK)
