Single-arm magnetic spectrometer with proportional chambers for measurement of inclusive spectra of charged particles
Description
A single-arm magnetic spectrometer with 17 proportional chambers (PCh) for 912 channels is described. The initial beam in the spectrometer is deviated by the first magnet and induced on the target. Four PChs define the angle and point of incidence of a particle on the target and four PChs define the angle and point of flying of a secondary particle. After the second (analizing) magnet four PChs define the trajectory of the secondary particle. The identification of the secondary particles is performed by three threshold Cherenkov counters with high resolution. The space angle of the device is equal to 30 μsteradn. The spectrometer was used for measuring the yields of π+-, k+--mesons and protons in the 0-50 mradn angle range and 4-68 GeV/c pulse range on bombardment of a number of nuclear targets by 68 GeV protons, including several real targets of the neutrino experiment
