Implantation instead of alloying

Description
Implantation of foreign atoms into regions close to the surface can alter the properties of solids. Excellent results have already been achieved with ion implantation in all sorts of fields, e.g. in the production of semiconductors, raising the transition temperature of superconductors, and investigating corrosion problems. Besides, implantation has to offer interesting possibilities for fundamental research. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Durch Einlagerung fremder Atome in oberflaechennahe Bereiche koennen die Eigenschaften von Festkoerpern gezielt veraendert werden. Diese Ionenimplantation hat auf verschiedensten Gebieten bereits hervorragende Ergebnisse erzielt, etwa bei der Herstellung von Halbleitern, bei der Erhoehung von Sprungtemperaturen der Supraleiter und der Untersuchung von Korrosionsproblemen. Ausserdem bietet sie interessante Moeglichkeiten fuer die Grundlagenforschung. (orig.)Additional details
