The reactor accident at Chernobyl

Description
Based on Soviet estimates and reports and on subsequent information from other sources, the technical reasons for the accident as well as the chronology of the events at the Chernobyl site are discussed. The characterization of the source term and of the environmental conditions during the days following the accident is based on the results of numerous measurements. Atmospheric transport and deposition models are used for the synoptic interpolation of the data points. (orig.)

Auf der Basis sowjetischer Angaben aus dem Jahr 1986 und darueber hinausgehender Erkenntnisse unterschiedlicher Informationsquellen werden die technischen Ursachen und die Chronologie des Unfallablaufs in Tschernobyl beschrieben. Die Quantifizierung und die Charakterisierung der Aktivitaetsfreisetzung und deren Ausbreitung in der Umwelt basiert auf dem vorliegenden umfangreichen Datenmaterial, das mit Hilfe von Modellen im Sinne synoptischer Bilanzen interpoliert und interpretiert wurde.
