This volume presents all courses and seminars given during session XXXIV of the Summer School held in Jul 1980 at Les Houches. It was devoted to the study of nonlinear phenomena playing an important role in laser-matter interactions. The book constitutes an introduction to the subject and a review of its recent developments.
