Analysis of safety evaluation guidelines for pyroprocessing facilities

  • 1. Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Daejeon (Korea, Republic of)
  • 2. Idaho State University, Pocatello (United States)

Description

Pyroprocess technology has been considered as a fuel cycle option to solve the spent fuel accumulation problems in Korea. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has been studying pyroprocess technology but the safety regulatory framework applicable to the development of safety documents for a pyroprocess facility was not yet prepared. This paper analyzed two very significant dose consequence evaluation guidelines: an American National Standard, ANSI/ANS-58.16-2014, titled 'Safety Categorization and Design Criteria for Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities' was issued in 2014 and a DOE-STD-3009, titled 'Preparation of Nonreactor Nuclear Facility Documented Safety Analysis' was updated in 2014
