Keeping erosion/corrosion in CHEC [in reactor pipework]

Description
At the centre of the Electric Power Research Institute's efforts to help US utilities address the problem of erosion/corrosion has been development of the CHEC (Chexal-Horowitz Erosion/Corrosion) predictive code. In response to the problem of erosion/corrosion the Nuclear Management and Resource Council and EPRI set up a programme to help utilities plan inspections, predict reduction in wall thickness as a function of plant life for various components, and assess remedies. A major part of this effort was development of the CHEC program, which uses a large body of laboratory test data from Europe and the United States. (author)
