Microstructural analysis and mechanical properties of Y-PZT

  • 1. Instituto de Pesquisas Energeticas e Nucleares (IPEN), Sao Paulo, SP (Brazil)

Description

Y-TZP dense bodies with homogeneous microstructures have been produced by different sintering schedules. Microstructural analysis was carried out by using X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy. Fracture toughness of several samples was determined using the Vickers indentation method and by the application of 15 equations that considered radial/median cracks and 4 equations related to Palmqvist cracks for K sub(Ic) calculations. The results varied considerably depending on the equations used and in certain cases, on the sintering route. (author)
