A new detector of neutrons

Description

Given are preliminary test results of a new position sensitive neutron detector. The detector is colloid of superconductor grains (indium) in paraffin with B4C adddition. There exists overheated state in which indium grains remain in superconducting state in the magnetic field above critical. During irradiation several grains transfer in the normal state, which is registered by Meisner effect, which includes pushing out the magnetic field from the superconductor. The measured efficiency of registration was equal 6% at 3.3K. With the use of more perfect electronics and technology of the detector production it is possible to produce a thin (approximately 1 cm) detector with approximately 80% efficiency
