Quantum solitons of the nonlinear σ model as a model of baryons
Creators
Description
Nonperturbative quantization of radially pulsating modes and of the rotational motion of a chiral field of the hedgehog type in the nonlinear SU (2) σ model is considered. The concept of quantum solitons, which collapse in the limit ℎ→0, is formulated. It is shown that radial pulsations are responsible for the occurrence of quantum solitons of the chiral field, and that quantization of their rotational motion leads to the formation of spin, isospin, and inertial mass. Conclusions are drawn on the possibility of using quantum solitons as models of baryons
