Isospin splitting of the giant dipole resonance in 89Y

Description
The total cross section for the reaction 89Y(γ,p)88Sr has been measured; the existence of the coherent T/sub greater-than/ state is clearly demonstrated. Using our (γ,p) and the available (γ,n) results, a strength ratio of the T/sub greater-than/ to T/sub less-than/ component S/sub greater-than//S/sub less-than/ equal to 0.13--0.14 is obtained. By determining the cross sections for various proton decay channels, the escape GAMMA/sup arrow-up/ and spreading GAMMA/sup arrow-down/ widths for the T/sub greater-than/ resonance were deduced. The direct decay probability of the T/sub greater-than/ state has been found to be GAMMA/sup arrow-up//GAMMA = 0.17 +- 0.03. .AE
