To the theory of origin of rotation of elliptical Galaxies

  • 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad. Fiziko-Tekhnicheskij Inst.

Description

Two mechanisms of forming angular momentum of elliptical galaxies in compact clusters of Coma type are considered. The first mechanism consists in the fact that these galaxies acquire an angular momentum due to the tidal interaction during the flight at the protogalactic stage past another protogalaxy. The second mechanism consists in the fact that the interaction between ''pancakes'' before their desintegration into protogalaxies can lead to acquisition by them an angular momentum. The separating from the ''pancake'' protogalaxies receive the angular velocity approximately equal to that of the ''pancake''. The estimates show that both processes considered can lead to specific angular momentum of elliptical galaxies of the observed value order
