Mox fuels : the best utilisation of plutonium now
Creators

Description
Since the early sixties, Belgonucleaire has worked on the development of a nuclear fuel which is a mixture of uranium and plutonium oxides. Arguments based on this experience are presented showing that presently no better use can be found for plutonium. The technology is reliable. Moreover, by recycling the plutonium, the problem of the used fuel is partly solved. Economically, the arguments are favorable towards Mox fuels. The risk for misuse or terrorist activities on transport or storage can be reduced by safeguards and control. Safety aspects are also discussed together with the impact on environment and people.
