Reprocessing of ionic melt bath containing high-level radioactive wastes by countercurrent electromigration

Description

We have proposed to apply a countercurrent electromigration technique to cleaning the melt bath contained high level radioactive fission products. According to preliminary experiments, Sr and Ba can be much easier enriched than Cs. We arranged the electromigration cell for removing enriched salt from the column after each migration. It was found that the specially designed cell could successfully remove the enriched part from the column repeatedly. This electromigration cell can be contributed to not only reduction of melt bath wastes but also prolongation of the electrorefining process for fuel recovery. (author)
