Instrumental neutron activation analysis - auxiliary tool in environmental monitoring around nuclear power plants

Creators

Description

This paper illustrates the use of instrumental NAA (INAA) as an auxiliary analytical tool for the environmental monitoring programs in place at the Calvert Cliffs nuclear power plant (CCNPP), operating in Lusby, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay shore. The INAA method was successfully used by the CCNPP in studies related to reactor coolant chemistry and waste processing system, and to determine principal and trace elements in environmental matrices. Other fields of INAA applications are low/high-level waste disposal, long-lived radionuclide transport, accident evaluation, and bioaccumulation studies
