Diagnostic radiology in nephrodithiasis and nephrocalcinosis

Description
In summary it can be stated that clinically and radiologically, nephrolithiasis and nephrocalcinosis are not uncommonly encountered together. It is the aim of X-ray diagnostic to detect stones and parenchymal calcification, to assess localisation, size and number or extent, to recognise secondary changes in the renal parenchyma and urinary-tract resulting from stones and to aid the search for the primary disease. In addition there are radiographic methods valuable for the intiation of treatment, e.g. percutaneous antegrade pyelography and nephrostomy. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Zusammenfassend laesst sich feststellen: Nephrolithiasis und Nephrokalzinose sind gar nicht so selten klinisch wie auch roentgenologisch ein gemeinsames Erscheinungsbild. Die Aufgabe der Roentgendiagnostik ist es: Konkremente und Parenchymverkalkungen nachzuweisen, ihre Groesse, Anzahl bzw. Ausdehnung und Lokalisation festzustellen, steinbedingte Sekundaerveraenderungen des Parenchyms und der ableitenden Harnwege zu erkennen und die Suche nach der primaeren Ursache hilfreich zu unterstuetzen. Darueber hinaus ist auch durch bestimmte Roentgenmethoden eine Therapieeinleitung moeglich, z.B. durch die perkutante antegrade Pyelographie und Nephrostomie. (orig.)Additional details
