Description

With the increased reliance on automation for control and monitoring in nuclear power plants great care must be taken in the application of new methods and technologies and in balancing the roles of humans and machines in power plant control. This paper describes changes in the control room of CANDU plants resulting from the introduction of automation and analyzes potential benefits and possible problems due to implementation of new technologies. examples are presented form the experience of using these technologies in CANDU power stations where computers are extensively used for plant monitoring and control, automatic fueling and automatic shutdown
