Description

A brief introduction to neural network techniques for pattern recognition and optimisation applications is given. We illustrate the power of this new paradigm for two high energy physics problems; identifying the origin of a hadronic jet and track finding. With respect to the former we are able to separate gluon jets from quark jets on a 85% level. In addition, very encouraging results for identifying heavy quarks are reported
