Spectrophotometry of Nova Cephei 1971
Description
Photoelectric scanner measurements were made on Nova Cephei 1971 on eight nights from 1971 July 29 to November 1. From the light curve Mυ at maximum was estimated to be – 8, resulting in a corrected distance of 4–5 kpc. The spectra of the nova show two stages of its evolution: the '4640' and the 'nebular' stages. The emission measures in flux unit (erg cm–2 s–1) were derived for strong features. The Balmer decrement was found to deviate from the theoretical value. The deviation is in the same sense as found in emission nebulae and in planetary nebulae. From the measurements of [O III] lines, |${T}_\text{e}\,=\,{8500}^{\circ}\,\text{K}$| was derived for the nova shell, if |${N}_\text{e}\geq {10}^{8}$| is assumed.
