The Osiris reactor. Descriptive report - Volume 1 - text
Description
Osiris is a pool type reactor with a 70 MW thermal power. Its main purpose is to irradiate under high flows of neutrons the materials of which future nuclear power stations are made. This report proposes a description of this pool reactor. A first part describes the functional aspects and general characteristics of all installations which are in principle definitely defined (premises, irradiation and experimentation equipment, water circuits, power supply, venting, controls). The second part addresses elements which are likely to be changed, and more particularly the reactor core: fuel elements and controls (uranium and boron load in different fuel element generations, experimental locations within the core), neutron transport aspects (calculation and experiment), and thermal aspects (power generation and removal) of the pile). The third part addresses the operation: operation cycles, stops, exploitation organisation
Abstract (French)
Osiris est un reacteur piscine d'une puissance thermique de 70 MW. Il a pour but principal d'irradier sous haut flux de neutrons les materiaux constitutifs des futures centrales nucleaires. Les caracteristiques generales de l'installation sont les resultats de choix techniques destines a faire d'Osiris un reacteur permettant des irradiations nombreuses dans des flux importants. Le descriptif d'Osiris a ete divise en deux parties. La premiere intitulee 'installations de base' decrit en s'attachant aux aspects fonctionnels et aux caracteristiques d'ensemble, toutes les installations en principe definitivement figees (lieux, commodites d'irradiation et d'experimentation, circuits d'eau, controle). La seconde partie intitulee 'elements susceptibles de modification' traite plus particulierement du coeur (elements combustibles, neutronique et thermique pile). Pour un tel reacteur de recherche dont la duree de vie doit etre superieure a 10 annees, il est possible de s'adapter a des programmes d'essais nouveaux. Enfin quelques precisions sont donnees sur le mode de fonctionnement et l'exploitation du reacteur apres deux annees de marche intensive avec un taux d'utilisation de 80 pc (tous arrets compris) a la puissance nominale et un taux de disponibilite (arrets programmes deduits) de 97 pc.
